Light Therapy for MS Fatigue:
A Research-Driven Approach

Fatigue is one of the most common and limiting symptoms in MS. Multiple phase 1 studies have shown it to be safe and immune stabilizing for CIS and MS patients. While approved for dermatology, this treatment is investigational for MS and should only be considered in consultation with your medical provider to ensure it is appropriate for your specific needs.

Why Fatigue in MS Deserves More Attention

80 %

80% of people with MS experience fatigue without any effective treatments. This type of fatigue is different from being tired — it’s neurological, persistent, and often disabling.

How Phototherapy Helps

How NB-UVB Light Supports Immune Regulation and Energy

Cytokind, in collaboration with the Kids Research Institute of Australia and Octave BioSciences, Inc., is the first to correlate MS fatigue to inflammation and measure the beneficial effects of NB-UVB—offering the promise of a non-drug option for patients.

  • Measurements of Fatigue
There are numerous questionnaires to qualify MS fatigue. Our research used the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) score, a 9-question online survey.
  • NB-UVB Therapy & Fatigue
It helps balance the immune response, including reducing inflammation and fatigue. NB-UVB significantly expanded regulatory T-cells, reduced switch-memory B-cells. In the PhoCIS trial, the FSS was significantly correlated with NB-UVB and reduced MS disease activity.
